La película Clever, cuyo título es el nombre del protagonista, es un drama de un hombre solitario, divorciado, padre e instructor de artes marciales que está obsesionado con que le pinten unas llamas de un estilo especial en su auto. Para lograr su deseo y encontrarse con el artista que va a hacer el trabajo, Clever tiene que trasladarse a un pueblo remoto. Durante el viaje para llegar a su destino se topa con unos personajes excéntricos y misteriosos que lo conducen a un lugar no esperado.
