Este drama que nos llega de la India contemporánea examina el Sistema Legal de ese País a través del juicio de un poeta y cantante envejeciente de canciones folklóricas que tiene lugar en una Corte de Sesiones de Mumbai. Luego que encuentran el cuerpo de un obrero que se dedica a limpiar cloacas, en el fondo de una alcantarilla, el activista es acusado de estimular el aparente suicidio con la letra de sus canciones. Según el caso se mueve por el tribunal la película también examina las vidas privadas de la fiscal, el abogado defensor y el juez.
La Corte fue seleccionada Mejor Película en la categoría Horizontes del 71 Festival de Cine Internacional de Venecia y Chaitanya Tamhane obtuvo el permio Luigi de Laurentis, también conocido como León del Futuro. La película recibió otros 18 galardones en festivales de cine en Mumbai, Viena, Hong Kong, Minsk y Singapur. El filme ha sido sometido por India en la Categoría de Películas Extranjeras para los Oscars de 2016.
This courtroom drama from contemporary India examines the Indian Legal System through the trial of an aging folk singer at a Sessions Court in Mumbai. After the body of a sewage cleaner, is found inside a manhole, the activist folk singer is charged with abetting the “apparent” suicide through the lyrics of his songs. As the case meanders through the legal system, the film also focuses on the personal lives of the public prosecutor, the defense lawyer and the judge.
Court, received the Best Film award in the Horizons Category in the 71st Venice International Film Festival and Chaitanya Tamhane the Luigi De Laurentis (also known as the Lion of the Future) award. The film also won 18 other awards at film festivals in Mumbai, Vienna, Hong Kong, Minsk, Singapore and other places. It is India´s submission in the Foreign Films Category for the 2016 Academy Awards.

Este documental retrata esa crisis contemporánea que representa el viaje de dos amigos, Ayla (Koudous Seihon) y Abas (Alassane Sy) que cruzan el Mediterráneo para inmigrar de Burkina Fasso, Africa, a Italia con la esperanza y sueños de un futuro mejor para sus familias. En el caso del primero (Ayla), para su hermana y su hija. Sin embargo, luego de sobrevivir un desierto inhóspito, un encuentro con bandidos, tormentas marinas y un arresto encuentran en Italia un ambiente que se torna hostil y un trabajo recogiendo naranjas por una paga que es la mitad de lo usual y por casa, una choza. Ayla y Abas no son muy distintos de otros que como ellos dejan el continente africano en busca de un sueño en Europa.
Jonas Carpignano fue nominado para el Gran Premio de la Semana de Críticos en el Festival de Cine de Cannes 2015 y obtuvo una Mención Honorifica para el Premio de Un Futuro en el Festival de Cine de Munich 2015; Koudos Seihon recibió una Mención Especial en la Categoría de Película Internacional en el Festival de Zurich 2015.
This documentary film portrays the contemporary crisis of the perilous journey of two friends, Ayla (Koudous Seihon) and Abas (Alassane Sy) who cross the Mediterranean as they immigrate from Burkina Faso, Africa, to Italy, empty handed, but with lots of hope and dreams of a better future for their families, which for Ayla are a sister and a daughter. However after surviving the desert, bandits, sea storms and an arrest, they face an unexpected hostile environment from the locals in Italy and a job harvesting oranges at half-pay and living in a shack. Their situation is not unusual since in real life that´s the lot of many immigrants who leave Africa trying to make their dreams come true in Europe.
Jonas Carpignano was nominated for the Critics Week Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2015 and received an Honorable Mention for the One Future Prize at the Munich Film Festival 2015; Koudos Seihon received a Special Mention in the International Feature Film Category at the Zurich Film Festival.
